Family story says he jumped ship in sydney at an unknown date, presumably 1880’s - 90’s.
He left home when the children were small and is listed as deceased on the wedding certificate of Elizabeth in March 1917. However his death by that point is not confirmed.

Child Desertion. — Ab the Liverpool Police Court on Friday, before Mr. F. R. Wilshire, P.M.,
Jacob Lawson, on remand from Camden, was charged with having deserted his female child,
and left her without means of support. Defendant was ordered bo pay 5s per week towards the child's support.

Sarah Lawson v. Jacob Lawson. — The defendant was charged with having left his child, Florence, thee years of age, without means of support. The defendant admitted that he was not supporting the child, though he was sendlng regularly 10s per week to his wife.
An order for the payment of 5s per was was made by the Bench.

In a similar case against Jacob Lawson (Disobedience of an order for the maintenance of a child.) the D,.S.M. found that a sum had been
paid, though £1 10s was still due.
An order for the imprisonment of the defendant until the order had been complied with was made.
