A BIG LAND SCRAMBLE Forty-nine applications were lodged for block 59, Bonegilla, and the whole of the applicants, save one, appeared at the Wodonga Land Board on Wednesday. Messrs Lane and Stewart, land officers, presided, and two of the applicants— Messrs Flanagan and Maginness—were represented by Messrs P. J. Berry Clinch and F. H. Tuthill respectively. John Bassett was the first applicant called. He said he was a tobacconist, at Wodonga. Had no selection in Victoria, but had selected land in New South Wales. Had six in family. Julia Bownds, a married woman, was the mother of a large family. W. R. Bownds was a single man, 18 years of age, and was agreeable, if he were successful in obtaining the block, to make a home of it.
