a youthful shoemaker, was brought up at the
Albury Police Court, on Tuesday, charged
with having deserted his wife. It was stated
that the fickle son of St. Crispin had trans
ferred his affections to a damsel nearer his
own age than the partner of his affections,
and with her had made tracks to the Tum-
barumba district. Bownds, in order that
enquiries might be made whether the transfer
were justifiable, was remanded for eight
days.

The Argus newspaper , Saturday 16 September 1865, records that Patrick O'Shea was rewarded for arrest of cattle thieves while working as a policeman at Benalla. The following rewards have been paid from the Police Reward Fund in the course of the week:-To Senior constable James Whelan (1,305) and Constable Patrick O'Shea (7G6), at Benalla, £3 and £2 respectively, in acknowledgement of their tact, shown in prosecuting Edward J. Bounds and William Hogan for cattle-stealing, sentenced to three years and five years respectively.
